The Product Manager will have both external (to the customer and the potential customer) and internal (to the other internal departments) responsibilities. The Product Manager needs to have a strong technical background in order to fully understand what the customer needs. S/He should be able to understand the tradeoffs that need to be taken and at the same time be able to lead the customer on discussions of what can be delivered and what can't be delivered. The PM should be able to make sure that the platform being created is consistent with the other platforms being created for other customer (or are already functional) and will steer the platform to fit into and enhance the company product line. Also, Sales training might be required from time to time, as well as pre-sales functions (ie: customer presentation, answers to RFQs, etc).
External responsibilities include:
* Be the focal point with the customer for all technical issues. The PM will have the final technical responsibility for what is committed and what is delivered
* Fully understand the customer's technical requirements and will understand the implementation of these requiremetns. If needed, the PM should be able to challenge specific customer technical requirements
* Analyze customer requirements and map them against company priorities and company strategy
Internal responsibilities include:
* Define product strategy and roadmap
* Provide detailed project specifications to engineering based on the input from the customer an based on company strategy
* Deliver MRDs and PRDs with prioritized features and corresponding to justification
* Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities
Requirements:
* Five years experience in a similar position demonstrating success with similar activities
* Familiarity in dealing directly with big tier 1 wireless operators, their internal structure and organization. Also familiarly with business requirements of these operators
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* BA degree (prefer MBA)
* Strong technical background with experience in wireless messaging technologies
* Proven ability to influence cross functional teams
